while iruka can be rather strict and overbearing, he has a soft heart with lots of room to spare. he tends to be over-protective of those he loves and can come across as somewhat harsh when it comes to disciplinary actions, but it's all because he wants his charges to grow up strong and to ensure that they learn the lessons they need to keep themselves safe. although, he would be lying if he said he didn't have a particularly soft spot for naruto, whom he views as a son. iruka sees quite a bit of himself in naruto and can't help but give him a little special treatment because of that.

iruka is extremely loyal to those close to him and upholds a strong sense of honour and duty. he is perfectly willing to lay down his life for any one of his comrades, or his students for that matter. he is a firm believer of the will of fire and thinks that the younger generations embody hope for the future, so he's ready to sacrifice anything for them.
